Javier García González estudió en la Universidad Politécnica de Catalunya donde en 1996 se graduó como Ingeniero Industrial por la E.T.S.E.I.B. Ese mismo año se incorporó al Instituto de Investigación Tecnológica (IIT) de la Universidad Pontificia Comillas, Madrid, donde realizó su tesis doctoral que defendió en 2001 en el área de modelos de ayuda a la decisión en el contexto del mercado eléctrico. En el año 2002 comenzó su docencia en la Escuela Superior de Ingeniería ICAI de la Universidad Pontificia Comillas, donde ha impartido diversas asignaturas del Departamento de Ingeniería Eléctrica. Ha sido el Director del Máster en Sector Eléctrico (Master in the Electric Power Industry) y Coordinador del Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Economics and Management of Network Industries (EMIN) en el período Enero 2007-Enero 2014. Ha sido Visiting Scholar en el Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research (CEEPR) y profesor del curso "Electric power system modeling for a low carbon economy" impartido de forma continuada en el MIT desde 2010. También ha sido investigador visitante en el Laboratorio Nacional Lawrence Berkeley (LBNL) en 2012. Ha sido subdirector del IIT desde marzo de 2016 a junio de 2022.

Experiencia profesional

Participación en más de 40 proyectos de investigación en colaboración con las principales compañías del sector eléctrico en España siendo el Investigador Principal en más de 30 de dichos proyectos. El objetivo de esos proyectos ha sido principalmente el desarrollo de herramientas de ayuda a la explotación (modelos de unit-commitment, de elaboración de ofertas, coordinación hidrotérmica, gestión de los sistemas hidráulicos en el medio plazo, etc.), así como proyectos de consultoría (modelos de predicción del precio de la electricidad en el medio plazo, redacción de informes periciales), y de formación mediante la impartición de cursos a medida (XM Compañía de Expertos en Mercados, MIT,etc.). Experiencia de gestión en proyectos europeos (responsable del WP15 del proyecto Europeo TWENTIES)..
