Prof. Dr. Gabriele Abbondanza is an international relations expert. He is Assistant Professor of International Relations at Comillas Pontifical University (Spain); Associate Researcher at the University of Sydney (USYD, Australia); Associate Fellow at the Italian Institute of International Affairs/Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI, Italy); and GEMI Researcher at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM, Spain). He is a former Marie Curie Fellow and lecturer at the Complutense University of Madrid, and a former lecturer at the University of Sydney. He specialises in: 1) the Indo-Pacific; 2) irregular migration governance; 3) middle power and great power theory; and 4) Australian and Italian foreign and security policy. He has published widely on these subjects, including articles in some of the world's leading journals. He is co-editor of "Italy and Australia" (with Dr. Simone Battiston), published by Palgrave Macmillan, and co-editor of "Awkward Powers" (with A/Prof. Thomas Wilkins), also published by Palgrave Macmillan. He is the author of four books, the latest of which have been published by Palgrave Macmillan ("Europe’s Indo-Pacific pivot") and Routledge ("The foreign policy of irregular migration governance") respectively. Dr. Abbondanza is a member of several scientific associations and currently teaches a number of courses related to international relations, security studies, and migration politics. He frequently contributes to media, public, institutional, and parliamentary debates concerning his fields of expertise, including those promoted by the NATO Foundation, the Italian Parliament (both the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies), the Spanish Ministry of Defence’s IUGM Institute, and the Institute of International Affairs.
