Elena Aguirre Fernández Bravo is a member of the Department of Translation, Interpreting and Multilingual Communication at Universidad Pontificia Comillas, where she has been a tenured professor since November 2023. She has been the Director of the M.A. program in Conference Interpreting in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (Comillas CIHS) since October 2018. Having taught courses both at a B.A. and M.A. level and directed over 60 TFG and TFM dissertations over the last years, she has also been an academic and professional orientation tutor since 2016. She holds the ANECA accreditations for Profesor Contratado Doctor and Profesor de Universidad Privada. In 2007, she finished her B.A. studies in Translation and Interpreting at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas with a major in Conference Interpreting, and English, French, and German as working languages. She also holds an M.A. in European Intercultural Studies (2009), a binational double degree from the Universität Regensburg (Germany) and the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain), and a Ph.D. in Translation and Interpreting from the Universidad Pontificia Comillas, where she took viva of her Ph.D. dissertation El desarrollo metacognitivo del estudiante de interpretación: Estudio de caso in July 2015. She has two main research areas of interest. On the one hand, cognition and metacognition in interpreting, with a particular focus on the process of learning interpreting skills, an area in which she explores the impact of new technologies and innovative teaching methodologies on interpreter training. On the other hand, the interplay between language and power in the analysis and interpretation of political discourses, more specifically, the role played by interpreters as mediators in international, intercultural contexts, and perceptions and self-perceptions thereof. This has allowed her to approach a variety of topics, such as feminine-style political rhetoric and its implications for interpreters, indirect interpreting in the European Union, and interpreting in the context of refugee crises. Her research track record so far has been recognised with a sexenio de investigación (2015-2021) from the Spanish National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA).
